You know what blogging is. Some people make a living at it and break national news stories. Now there’s video blogging or vlogging.

You know what podcasts are. (At least you’ve heard of it.) Now there’s video podcasts or vodcasts (video on demand casts). So what is going on with all this?

Our very distinguished guest will help us sort it out. Donna Liu is Founder and Executive Director of the University Channel Project at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. The University Channel (http://uc.princeton.edu) is a multimedia portal for recordings of public lectures and events from an international consortium of universities. The website launched in July 2005. The podcast has been available since October, and now registers a download rate of more than one full-length lecture every minute of every day. University Channel lectures have also been distributed as vodcasts, video-on-demand, streaming video, IPTV, and access TV. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the public discourse on current affairs.

Liu has taught courses in Mass Media and Television News at Princeton University. Before coming to Princeton in 2002, she was a news producer and manager at CNN. She founded CNN International’s Asia Production Center in Hong Kong in 1995 and launched the network’s first Asian regional news programming. Professional recognition includes an Emmy for coverage of the Tiananmen protests in China in 1989, and an ACE award for coverage of the 1991 Gulf War.

In other news of interest, there is a training day for FCP5 users coming up at the end of the month. Sponsored by the 4 Ever Group (www.forevergroup.org), it consists of 2 separate all-day classes - one for FCP5 and the other for Photoshop/After Effects/Premiere Pro/Encore integration. Information is enclosed in the attached pdf document. Registration is open now. Members of any local videographers’ association can register in advance for only $95.00. Registration and full details of the workshops are available behind the little “spring training” ad in the lower right at www.4evergroup.org.
