Digital design and animation is surely one of the most exciting areas of media production.

In upscale editing suites and dimly lit basements, editor/designers channel a wide range of converging technologies, creating dynamic visuals for video and motion pictures, web, multimedia, and video games.

But there is a dark side to the force. Without a strong sense of design, and a clear vision for the end product, the most sophisticated graphics can come off as so much digital sludge.

On Wednesday, May 25, The Princeton Media Communication Associations brings together some of the region’s most innovative designers and editors to screen their work and talk about how to harness the potential and avoid the pitfalls of this dynamic and expanding field.

Our guests include:

Dave Teich, Marvin Francisco and Chris Adornato from Solari Creative in Eatontown, NJ and Mike Reilly, founder of Morristown-based Postabilities.

Solari Creative is a full service graphic design & multimedia agency specializing in 3d modeling, simulation and motion graphics for broadcast media, corporate identity, web, interactive, illustration, exhibit and interior design. Thier clients have included Comcast, Lockheed, Johnson & Johnson and the US Army.

Dave Teich, Solari’s Motion Graphics Director, has been creating computer graphics since 1989 for typography, graphic design, illustration, 3d modeling, animation, special effects, and compositing. He has taught classes on a variety of 3d effects tools, and his work has been featured in demo reels for form*Z, ElectricImage, and Adobe Systems, as well as in industry magazines.

Marvin Francisco is Solari’s lead character modeler/animator and special effects artist. He has been creating 3d computer graphics since 1998, including traditional animation, illustration and character design.

Chris Adornato is one of the lead animators at Solari. He started out in post-production where he worked on many national television spots, including CNN, TNT, and the Weather Channel.

Along with a very impressive portfolio of corporate and marketing work, Mike Reilly employs his keyboard wizardry to blend motion graphics, after-effects and ultimatte into an unconventional (some say bizarre) mix. Mike’s motto: “Always use the right tools for the right job, but it’s the goofy stuff that keeps the job fun.” Mike’s long list of credits includes producing and posting the TV spots for his unsuccessful run for the presidency.

Ken Blando, is a producer, director, and editor whose expertise includes advertising, corporate communications, and music videos. Whether behind the camera or in the edit suite, Ken orchestrates diverse visual and audio elements, delivering his client's message in a cohesive, compelling way. Ken's fluency in a variety of editing and graphic technologies gives each of his projects a unique, dynamic style.
