Princeton Media Communications Association APRIL 2003 MEETINGWho'll Own Town Hall digital democracy in the age of Media Conglomeration* Brian McKernan, Digital Cinema magazine Date: Wednesday,
April 23, 2003
Additional Information "Digital media" continues to revolutionize the way we communicate, and in turn, the way we live. Consider the Internet. Ten years ago few in the general public could have imagined it. Today most people can't imagine being without it. Likewise, "video", once a tri-opoly of corporate-sponsored news and entertainment, is deconstructing. But into what? New and improving technologies - featherweight cameras, PC-based editing, cyber distribution - allow tech-savvy individuals to communicate (and advocate) globally, in new and far reaching ways. The changes will be profound - on our industry and economy; our culture and political process; on the notions of privacy, individual liberty, even the perception of reality itself. We're going to talk about some of these changes - the promise and potential as well as questions and caveats. Speakers include: Brian McKernan is the editor and associate publisher of Digital Cinema magazine. He previously spent over a decade as editor of Videography magazine from 1988-1999. Mr. McKernan also served as editorial director of Videography and Digital Television magazines. Brian is also co-editor of the book, Creating Digital Content: A Guide to Video Production for Web, Broadcast, and Cinema, published by McGraw Hill. Steve Rosenbaum is founder and CEO of CameraPlanet. An innovator of videojournalism, Mr. Rosenbaum's award winning television, Internet and film projects range from reality based documentary and hard news to narrative fiction. Under Mr. Rosenbaum's leadership Camera Planet produces and distributes original stories from filmmakers around the world. Steve is an active member of the Board of Trustees for the International Documentary Association. Jay Milner is a screenwriter/producer living and working in Princeton, New Jersey.
