Princeton Media Communications Association MARCH 2003 MEETINGManaging Web and Multimedia Production Wendy Collins, Films for the Humanities &
Sciences Date: Wednesday,
March. 19, 2003
Additional Information Managing large interactive media projects, such as Web sites and CD-ROMs, is a very complex process. There are clients, who may or may not understand the development process, and may or may not understand how much things cost, whose expectations must be met. Then there are different groups of specialists--writers, graphic designers, programmers, animators, video and audio professionals--who must all work together as a coordinated team. This month we'll discuss the best practices for managing Web and other multimedia projects with an accomplished panel of interactive media producers. The panel will cover such issues as how to present highly interactive content on paper to get approvals from clients and client's legal departments; how to know when to ask for more money from clients; how to recognize early when development is going to take longer than expected; and how much should you know about all the different software applications being used in order to manage the process effectively. Our panel consists of Wendy Collins, Director of Multimedia at Films for the Humanities & Sciences, Mark Feffer, President and Publisher of Tramp Steamer Media, LLC., and Tracy Budge, Director, Project Management at Newton Gravity Shift. At Films for Humanities & Sciences, the largest distributor of videos and multimedia to the educational market, Wendy Collins is responsible for the design and production of interactive e-learning programs. As a leader in the e-learning industry, Wendy has shared her experience and expertise by delivering presentations and seminars on topics covering all aspects of e-learning design. The high quality of her work has been recognized with some of the industry's most prestigious awards such as the AV Multimedia Producer Top 100 Award; Brandon Hall of Fame Silver Award; NY Festivals Gold Award; Brandon Hall of Fame Bronze Award; and the New Media Invision Award. Recognized as one of the Top 100 Video and Multimedia Producers in the United States, Mark M. Feffer has nearly twenty years of experience in the creation, development, and marketing of online and multimedia products. Before founding Tramp Steamer Media, Mr. Feffer spent more than ten years in the interactive-services group at Dow Jones & Company, publisher of The Wall Street Journal. He is a recognized electronic publishing pioneer. At Newton Gravity Shift, Tracy Budge oversees a staff of five project managers, each of whom works on multiple Web and e-Learning projects simultaneously. She makes sure all projects stay on track and decides which projects the programmers, designers, and video producers will work on when they have requests for their time from multiple project managers. Tracy is able to look at the big picture of what each project will accomplish for a client and at the minutia of detail required to successfully complete all disparate project elements on time and on budget. The March meeting is sponsored by Action Duplication, a full service Video, Audio, DVD, CD and Multimedia duplication facility located outside of Philadelphia.
Action Duplication is the only facility in the region which operates in-house CD Molding and Silk Screening, High Speed Video duplication, and is licensed by JVC. Please call them for all your media duplication needs at (800) 847-3827 or (610) 828-7580 or email them at info@actionduplication.com. If these meetings sound intriguing, now would be a good time to join PMCA. And our board is always looking for people who are excited about the video or electronic media profession and want to help us make the organization successful and rewarding.
