The historical progression of computer technology has been to make devices that are simultaneously smaller and more powerful: smaller calculators, smaller computers, smaller cell phones, and smaller video files.
For corporate video professionals "pocket" video files mean that the power of the video medium can now be brought to devices like personal digital assistants and cell phones. Repair technicians can watch an installation procedure without lugging around a laptop, and news and entertainment companies can reach mobile professionals with video.

This month's meeting will take a look at the entire issue of "Pocket Video:"

· What's being done right now
· Software and hardware requirements
· Future marketplaces and applications
· Future infrastructure for wireless and broadcast transmission

Our speakers are Neil Ziesing, an Account Manager for Menlo Park, Calif.-based Generic Media and John R. Wickens, Manager of Telecom and Interactive Media for New York-based PA Consulting Group.

PA is an international management, systems and technology consulting firm with 3,800 staff in 20 countries. John Wickens is in charge of PA's relationships with US clients in the wireless industry. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Kingston University in England, has participated in CCITT standards development, and speaks regularly at seminars on wireless communications in the US, Europe and Asia.

Mr. Ziesing will talk about Generic Media's unique streaming services, which includes streaming to PDAs and cell phones as well as g Movie Maker, and gMovie Player which enable Macintosh and Windows users to easily convert and playback color video, animation and still image files on Palm handheld devices, including the Palm, Sony CLIÉ, Handspring Visor, IBM WorkPad and TRGpro.

Mr. Wickens will discuss how broadband wireless will be deployed in the United states, the technology that will likely be used, and the expected timeline.

This is a must-attend meeting for anyone who's interested in the future of video and wireless telecom technology.
