JAMIE XV REIGNS IN NJ 15th annual JAMIEs March 2003 The 15th annual JAMIEs [Jersey Awards for Media Innovation and Excellence], sponsored by MCA-I's North Jersey and Princeton chapters, was held in Paramus, NJ, on Saturday, March 22, 2003. A total of 3 Gold, 10 Silver, and 13 Bronze awards were presented in the categories of Training, Informational, Sales & Marketing, Broadcast & Cable and Multimedia, each divided into above- and below-$30,000 groupings. There were also winners in Performance and Editing. All of this year's winners were New Jersey-based; see the list of winners below. In a departure from previous entertainment segments of the program, two speakers addressed the banquet. Dick Van Deusen, co-founder of ITVA and Member #1, discussed coming trends in production; click here to read his insightful comments. Steve Gorelick, Associate Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (www.njfilm.org), discussed current production in New Jersey and extended an offer to be listed on the Commission's website; enter your information at http://www.njfilm.org:8000/njfilm2/PSDForm.html. Steve also warned of a major funding crisis which could close the Commission in July, and urged everyone who wants to support the work and the continuation of the Commission to call 973-648-6279 to see how you can help. "I think we really nailed it this time," said co-chairman Dennis Nobile, also the Past President of Princeton MCA-I. "It was a lot of fun, and the videos were terrific. Congratulations go to everyone for everything!" Co-chair Tim Masters of the North Jersey chapter shared Dennis' enthusiasm, as both thanked the large group of volunteers who made the event possible. "Our special appreciation goes to John Kaplow who, in addition to co-founding the JAMIEs as The New Jersey Awards, has successfully handled ad sales and the program book for every one of its fifteen years; and to Rich Borge of Vidulent Digital Productions, who served as tech crew, arranged for much of the equipment, and assembled and presented the excellent show reel." The complete list of volunteer credits and acknowledgements follow the list of winners. The sold-out banquet and presentation, held at Biagio's Restaurant in Paramus, was co-hosted by Dennis Nobile and North Jersey's former President Paul Payton. Presenting the awards were Past New York President Emma Justice, now President-Elect of the entire MCA-I organization; former New York President George Cauttero, also a former Regional Vice President; current New York Chapter President Corinna Sager; once-and-again Princeton President Andy Kienzle; and the remarkable Pamela Rutherford, who is concluding a four-year term as North Jersey's President and will become the first Northeastern Regional Coordinator for the reorganized MCA-I. Also presenting were North Jersey President-Elect Judy Seaman and Awards co-founder John Kaplow. Other dignitaries in attendance included former international Treasurer and New York Board member Jon Blankley from Connecticut, former ITVA International President Karen Rogers from Baltimore, former Princeton Chapter President and Awards co-founder Sharon McGuire from Pittsburgh, and former ITVA executive staffer Inez Wehrli all the way from Texas! Many of the above are also involved with MCA-I's charitable arm, the Chick Webb Foundation. "Despite the difficult social and economic times, everyone we've
heard from has had positive reactions to the event," said Pam
Rutherford. Pam also invited those interested in receiving next year's
call for entries to contact her at mailto:pamela@galaxy.net,
or by phone at 201-272-3700 ext. 114. "To see how good our winners
are," she continued, "North Jersey's April meeting [Tuesday,
April 15th] will be the annual follow-up 'show and tell,' when we invite
several winners to show long segments of their winning work and discuss
how they did it." E-mail Pam at the above address to be notified of
details for that and future North Jersey meetings. (To be added to
Princeton's e-mail list, contact Vince Wright at mailto:wrightfilms@macconnect.com.)
